LEGO 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas reactions praise Zero and question the price

The reveal of LEGO Ideas 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas has prompted interesting reactions from the LEGO and Disney communities.

Earlier today, 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas was revealed to much fanfare online as both LEGO and Disney enthusiasts shared their initial reactions to the first fully-fledged Nightmare Before Christmas model.

As with many LEGO reveals, the question of price and whether the set is worth the £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 price tag was raised. For that cost, you’re getting a 2,193-piece build and eight exclusive characters including a specially moulded Zero. Some didn’t seem convinced by that price though.

Indianajoes on the LEGO Reddit argued that a smaller model of just the leftmost section would have been preferable, “I know it’s from the original submission, but I’d much rather have got just the hill and moon with Jack, Sally and Zero for maybe £60 / 70.”

It’s a fair point, but keep in mind that LEGO Ideas sets tend to be on the more expensive side these days and without the rest of Halloween Town, we wouldn’t have Santa Claus, Lock, Shock, Barrel and a brick-built figure of The Mayor as was proposed. While some debated the price, others were ecstatic about the exclusive LEGO Zero piece, complete with a tiny pumpkin nose.

“It looks like they put all their effort into Zero and then completely forgot the Mayor exists until the last minute lol,” shared Very_Human_42069.

Soul-of-Tinder was suitably more impressed by the part usage for The Mayor figure, stating, “I love how the mayor is just two stacked cone pieces.”

“To be fair, the mayor does look like stacked cone pieces,” responded Warcraft_Fan, making an equally good point about the character’s figure.

Also over on Reddit, a thread of comments quickly evolved into a recreation of one of the film’s iconic songs, which was inevitable all things considered.

21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas will be available for LEGO Insiders from September 3, before going on wider sale through LEGO.com and LEGO Stores from September 6. It can be yours for £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 next month with a second chance to grab minifigures of Jack and Sally. Click here to see what’s changed since the original project.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
