LEGO Star Wars 40730 Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber GWP revealed

The newly-revealed LEGO Star Wars 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge will be accompanied by an exclusive and limited-edition gift-with-purchase, 40730 Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber.

Modelled on the hilt Luke constructed at the beginning of Return of the Jedi (in a deleted scene), the 145-piece lightsaber is the third in a series of buildable hilts released since 2020. Each one has accompanied its respective year’s flagship LEGO Star Wars set, and the same will be true of 40730 Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber, which will only be available when buying 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge between October 3 and 10 (or while stocks last).

That newly-unveiled Ultimate Collector Series set weighs in at £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99, which makes this one of the most expensive gifts-with-purchase in 2024. It’s not the year’s only freebie locked to a specific, high-value set – 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr came with 40693 The Lord of the Rings: Fell Beast for a limited time only – but it will still smart for those without deep enough pockets to reach for the Sail Barge on day one.

Like its predecessors, this saber is built around a central core of round 4×4 bricks, continuing the consistent scale of 6346097 Yoda’s Lightsaber and 40483 Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber. It also sits on an identical brick-built display stand with a printed plaque pointing out that it’s specifically Luke’s Return of the Jedi weapon. Given we first see the Jedi wield this aboard Jabba’s boat, it feels like a relevant promotional model for the new UCS set.

You’ll be able to get your hands on it when 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge goes on sale to LEGO Insiders on October 3 (and to everyone else on October 6). If previous LEGO Star Wars GWPs are anything to go by, 40730 Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber is likely to sell out quickly, so make sure you’ve signed up to the LEGO Insiders program ahead of time if you want to ensure getting your hands on it.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
