LEGO Art will be ‘ongoing, forever’
The new LEGO Art theme will be an ongoing assortment beyond the four new Star Wars, Marvel, Andy Warhol and The Beatles sets that have been announced.
LEGO Art Design Manager Samuel Johnson has teased that the new theme for adults will continue beyond the first four sets that have been announced today. 31197 Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe, 31198 The Beatles, 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man and 31200 Star Wars The Sith will be just the beginning of this new expression.
“This is really just the beginning of a brand-new platform for LEGO, so this is our starting point,” Sam explained in a presentation during LEGO Fan Media Days 2020. “This way of building can go in many different directions. We are launching with the four sets, [but] we are not going to close it down for people to customise them or do whatever they want with them, in fact we would embrace that people would make their own art and combine the colours as they wish.”

LEGO Art: ‘something different that appeals’
Elsewhere in the product reveal, he teased some of the ways the theme could expand: “We are not closed off for any theme really, it could be landscapes or vehicles or buildings – who knows in the future?”
When discussing 31200 Star Wars The Sith, the Design Manager went even further. “The fourth – and not – final SKU which is coming out this year… we will actually be continuing to produce this assortment for years and years to come hopefully. This is a brand new platform for LEGO, ongoing, forever – let’s just say forever.”
The “forever” line was clearly a joke, but with Design Manager Fiorella Groves having taken the product line on, it is safe to assume there are already more products in various stages of development. If the first four sets are not appealing, fans need not worry… there is more to come from LEGO Art.
