Early review of LEGO Marvel 76266 Endgame Final Battle says it’s ‘messy but beautiful’

An early review of LEGO Marvel 76266 Endgame Final Battle has hailed the August 2023 set as a ‘messy but beautiful’ recreation of Avengers: Endgame’s climactic showdown.

Arriving at the start of next month alongside five other LEGO Marvel sets, 76266 Endgame Final Battle pays homage to the moment in the fourth Avengers movie when the Russo brothers cram pretty much every female superhero into one frame. It’s missing a few characters from that scene – Rescue (Pepper Potts), Gamora, Nebula, Mantis – but does include Shuri, Okoye, Captain Marvel, Valkyrie, Wanda Maximoff and a microfigure of Wasp.

YouTuber MandRproductions (or Ryan) already has his hands on an early review copy of the 794-piece set, and right from the off says his initial impression of the build (from the box alone) is that it ‘looks like one of the messiest LEGO builds I’ve ever seen’. Built on a circular black base – like 76261 Spider-Man Final Battle – the diorama attempts to capture the explosive battlefield on which our heroes face off against Thanos, complete with detritus, debris and the wrecked Avengers HQ.

By the time he’s talked through all seven characters (you get a bigfig Thanos alongside the women) and the build, Ryan’s opinion hasn’t changed all that much. “With all the minifigures on there, it looks a bit messier than it already did,” he says, “but it’s also just such a cool battle scene to have recreated like this, I’ve got to say I love that.”

His review highlights all the minifigures in the box, shows how the vertical diorama can swing open to reveal multiple Easter eggs inside – including Mjolnir and Captain America’s shield – and takes us through the entire build, from the portal at the top (out of which Valkyrie can appear on horseback) to Luis’s van, complete with a sticker to represent the Quantum Tunnel.

This is only the latest in a string of LEGO Marvel sets depicting the final battle scene in Avengers: Endgame, but it’s decidedly different from its predecessors, which have mostly focused on recreating the fully-constructed Avengers compound. Ryan notes that does 76266 Endgame Final Battle plenty of favours, and should help it find an audience come August.

“I think this is a really cool display piece and a very unique way to recreate an iconic scene from the end of Avengers: Endgame,” the YouTuber wraps up. “It might not be as good as the Spider-Man one, but this still might be a buy if you find yourself interested for $100.”

76266 Endgame Final Battle launches August 1 for £94.99 / $99.99 / €104.99.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
