LEGO Speed Champions final March reveal could be around the corner
If our theory is right, we could get a first look at the final rumoured LEGO Speed Champions set for the spring wave in a few short weeks.
One rumoured LEGO Speed Champions for March 2024 has still not been officially revealed, despite three others that are due for release around the same time already being confirmed via official listings from the LEGO Group. Nonetheless, there’s a very good reason for the delay – and, if we’re right, we won’t be waiting too much longer.
As well as the confirmed trio 76920 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, 76921 Audi S1 e-tron quattro, and 76922 BMW M4 GT3 & BMW M Hybrid V8, rumours reported by Instagram user exabrickslego_go suggest a fourth set will launch at the same time, 76919 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car. Ordinarily, the LEGO Group often tends to unveil waves from the same theme at the same time, rather than leaving one behind.
However, the set name for 76919 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car clearly suggests that it will be tied to McLaren F1, who will unveil its new car for 2024 on February 14. Although the livery for the upcoming season made its debut on January 16, that only shows off the new colours and aesthetic design, rather than the car specs themselves.
It seems likely that 76919 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car could be based on the upcoming 2024 model and therefore the LEGO Group has an agreement with McLaren not to reveal it until the real-life Formula 1 car has been revealed. This echoes how LEGO Star Wars and Marvel set reveals are often tied to movie or TV show premieres.
However, it does smack of a missed opportunity for LEGO Speed Champions to release a set based on last year’s McLaren Formula 1 car, which was a celebration of 60 years of the team and a homage to the founder, Bruce McLaren. While 2023 did see a celebration of 60 years for the car brand in the first-ever double pack of LEGO Speed Champions, 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM, it would have been fun to see a brick-built version of the McLaren MCL60.
If our theory rings true, then it could mean we’re just a few weeks off seeing the final LEGO Speed Champions set for release in March. Of course, this is all speculation for now. We won’t know for sure whether 76919 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car is on its way until we get a full reveal from the LEGO Group. For now, take a closer look at the sets we do have confirmed here.
