LEGO 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad gift-with-purchase review
40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad is a cute little LEGO gift-with-purchase with a not-very-cute qualifying spend. Won’t stop you getting it, though.
Initially released on early access to LEGO Insiders from February 16 to 18 inclusive, 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad is back from August 1 to 7 at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores for everyone (while stocks last), awarded with LEGO purchases of £180 / $200 / €200.
Is there enough in the box to warrant forking out a substantial spend? Well, annoyingly, yes. The fear of missing out is very real with this one, especially the second time around, primarily for the two mini Classic Space astronauts that are included (not to be confused with Classic Space Babies, even if some of the LEGO Group’s own communication on the set labels them as such).
These two tiny little space people are brilliant and cute and come in two different colours, making them instantly collectible and highly desirable for all. The change in expression away from the baby face to the simpler smiling LEGO face is a smart move that really opens up a clever and presumably cost-effective creative direction moving forward. Holding as much charm and fun as larger minifigures, there’s something to be said for more sets featuring ‘not-baby’ mini-minifigures like these.
In addition, the LEGO builds the astronauts come with pay tribute to two Classic Space sets from yesteryear, which both pull in LEGO fans of a particular generation as well as give those of us less familiar with those 40-plus-year-old sets a nice, new way of experiencing them, shrunk down.
In spite of the smaller size, each of the builds remains highly playable and, combined with a peppering of Classic Space stickers across them, really sets the little scene playing out in front of us quite excellently. There’s a lot to be enjoyed across 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad, even if the qualifying spend feels a bit high. For what this set means for a lot of LEGO fans, though, that’s not going to stop us.
It certainly didn’t in February when this set sold out during its Insiders early access period, failing to materialise for the remainder of its planned availability, so chances are it could disappear just as quickly this time round.
LEGO gift-with-purchase 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad is awarded with LEGO purchases of £180 / $200 / €200 at LEGO.com or in LEGO stores from now through to August 7, while stocks last.

really strange but ordering the mclaren P1 does not qualify you to get this reward despite being over the amount stated. given they are giving the P1 special they must have purposefully made it so not to apply in this way
