Something is missing from LEGO’s San Diego Comic-Con 2024 plans

There’s something currently missing from the LEGO Group’s plans for San Diego Comic-Con 2024 compared to last year that might be a no-show.

The LEGO Group’s currently-announced plans for San Diego Comic-Con 2024 include a dedicated LEGO MASTERS and LEGO NINJAGO: Dragons Rising panel and a booth on the event floor. That’s a considerable selection of LEGO-specific offerings coming to the event later this month and there’s even an (unconfirmed) chance that the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons minifigures will make an appearance.

That said, those of you who remember the LEGO Group’s offerings for San Diego Comic-Con 2023 might notice that something is missing in comparison. The 2023 event had a NINJAGO panel, a LEGO MASTERS panel and a LEGO booth but the NINJAGO panel was shared with another theme.

Last year, LEGO NINJAGO and LEGO DREAMZzz shared a panel but the 2024 panel is only confirmed to feature NINJAGO and there’s plenty to discuss according to the description. There was also an episode of LEGO DREAMZzz available to watch but nothing for the original theme appears to be planned this year.

Whether the LEGO Group has a reason to leave DREAMZzz out of the selection this year is unknown but the theme is rumoured to continue into 2025 and a cliffhanger from the end of the latest episode suggests that the story will go on at least a bit longer. We also know that the team has worked on ideas for 2026 too.

At the very least, we may see the upcoming LEGO DREAMZzz summer 2024 sets – including 71486 Castle Nocturnia – at the LEGO Group’s booth but otherwise, the theme seems to be taking a gap year from Comic-Con. There may still be time to confirm more panels but with the event starting on July 24, time is running out to inform attendees.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
