LEGO 71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi pre-orders now live
Pre-orders for the recently-revealed 71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi are now live, with full international pricing for the LEGO Super Mario set.
A brand new 18+ LEGO Super Mario set was unveiled on the first day of San Diego Comic-Con 2024 in the shape of 71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi. The 1,215-piece pixel art model is on display at the LEGO Group’s booth, with a listing briefly appearing on a Singaporean LEGO Certified Store.
The good news is that pre-orders for 71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi are also now live on LEGO.com, with the set priced at £114.99 / $129.99 / €129.99 and due to ship from October 1.
71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi measures over 40cm high, 26cm wide and 11cm deep and can be displayed freestanding thanks to what appears to be a sturdy base.
The official listing for 71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi confirms that a handle on the side of the build can be turned to make Yoshi run with Mario on his back, while rotating a dial behind Yoshi’s head makes the character’s tongue pop in and out.
“In this model, we wanted to capture the original sprite animation from Super Mario World,” said Carl Merriam, a Senior Designer on LEGO Super Mario. “This meant re-creating the pixel art in LEGO bricks and then adding a mechanism to make Yoshi run with Caped Mario riding on his back. AND if that wasn’t enough fun, we also added a dial to make Yoshi’s tongue pop in and out – just like in the game!”
Also something of a surprise is that fact that 71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi features an Action Tag that makes the model compatible with the current line-up of interactive LEGO Super Mario figures. Simply place Mario, Luigi or Peach onto the set and you’ll reveal their digital reactions.
This is the first time that fan-favourite Yoshi has appeared as a 2D build, although various brick-built versions of the loveable character already exist within the LEGO Super Mario theme.
71438 Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi can be pre-ordered right now ahead of its October 1 release for £114.99 / $129.99 / €129.99.
