LEGO Minecraft’s other anniversary set has familiar faces

21281 Baby Pig’s Birthday Celebration can be considered LEGO Minecraft’s second 15th-anniversary build, paying tribute to a retired range of sets.

Given the celebratory nature of 21281 Baby Pig’s Birthday Celebration and the fireworks on the box art, it would appear to be the second model celebrating the 15th anniversary of Minecraft, joining 21265 The Crafting Table. That especially seems to be the case when you consider that the model is one giant Easter egg.

LEGO Minecraft has experimented with many set concepts over its 11-year history including the Micro World range, referenced in 21265 The Crafting Table, minifigure-scale sets and buildable figures in 2019 and 2020.

The latter seems to be the referential focus in 21281 Baby Pig’s Birthday Celebration, even down to including nearly the same build for the Creeper and Baby Zombie as in 21156 BigFig Creeper and Ocelot and 21157 BigFig Pig with Baby Zombie respectively.

Look closely and you’ll see that the same pieces have been used for the cat’s ears from the original ocelot build as well as reused prints all over the upcoming set.

21281 Baby Pig’s Birthday Celebration launches on October 1 for £17.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 and the other LEGO Minecraft 15th-anniversary set is just a few days away, similarly depicting an homage to a past range of the theme’s builds.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
