Five LEGO sets supposedly for kids – but worth a look for adults too

Some LEGO sets might be designed with kids in mind but we’ve picked out a few that might be finding their way onto adult shelves as well.

Although the LEGO Group has age ranges in mind for its set, there have been quite a few in 2024 alone that blur the lines. There are no hard and fast rules as to who can build what, although younger builders might struggle with 18+ sets of course. For the other way around, there’s really no reason that older fans of LEGO can’t choose to embark on sets designed for younger people.

In fact, there are several supposedly child-centric sets that we can’t help but think would appeal to adults. They certainly appeal to us, so we thought we would shine a spotlight on a few of them here.

LEGO Disney 43245 The Magical Madrigal House

First up is 43245 The Magical Madrigal House, an update to 2021’s 43202 The Madrigal House that’s almost triple the piece count. Those extra pieces offer a whole lot more detail to the build, making it appeal even more to an older audience. Encanto is, of course, a Disney movie predominantly for children, but in true Disney style offers plenty for older audiences too. The message of family connections and generational clashes resonates with many people of all ages, so any older fans who want a brick-built token from the movie would likely be more than satisfied with the vibrant 43245 The Magical Madrigal House.

LEGO City 60408 Car Transporter Truck with Sports Cars

LEGO cars are surely one of the most popular areas to collect and this set offers you four vehicles at the respectable price tag of £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99. That includes a ’50s-style tail dragger, a ’70s-style muscle car, and a modern electric supercar, as well as a truck with a detachable trailer and tilting cab. The plan features are practical rather than fantastical, lending it well to older car fans as well as young.

LEGO Friends 42639 Andrea’s Modern Mansion

While some people might see the mini-dolls and turn away, there’s plenty more to 42639 Andrea’s Modern Mansion if you stick around for it. It’s rare to see such a unique structure in a building, between the rocky underground car garage to the quirky white panelling on the outside. The use of leaf pieces for the palm fronds is also very effective, so remove the mini-dolls and you’ve just got the coolest addition to your LEGO street possible.

LEGO 40715 Alien Pack

LEGO Space has been enjoying its time in the spotlight this year and 40715 Alien Pack is the perfect pack to bulk out any intergalactic displays. While there’s guidance on how to build the aliens pictured above, the real strength of this set is that it could easily work like a pack of assorted space-themed elements if you’re looking to flex your creative muscles. The various green eyes and other alien-specific accessories make it a treasure trove for your next LEGO-fied journey into space – and all for just £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99.

LEGO Friends 42638 Castle Bed and Breakfast

Last but not least, here’s another LEGO Friends set that’s just plain pretty. The sand blue turrets, the climbing wall flowers, the surprisingly detailed interior for a ‘child’ set: it all comes together for a remarkably stunning set. At £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99, the LEGO Friends prices are going a long way to make this 1,311-piece set even more tempting – and that’s without even mentioning the fact that it comes with its own LEGO dog to boot.
