Avatar 3 title revealed at D23, plus Toy Story 5, TRON: Ares and more

Major entertainment reveals continue to emerge from this year’s D23 event, including the official title for the upcoming third Avatar movie.

This year’s D23 expo is currently in full swing, with huge announcements continuing to emerge during the fan event. So far we’ve had details of major Star Wars, Marvel and Disney projects on the way and the hits just keep on coming, with plenty of potential for future LEGO sets and mininfigures.

Multiple new live-action and animated offerings were on display during the second day of D23, with many of the creative talent behind each movie appearing in person, along with concept art, first footage and release dates.

Avatar: Fire and Ash

Last night, director James Cameron and stars Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington took to the D23 stage to reveal concept art for the third Avatar film, as well as revealing the movie’s title. Avatar: Fire and Ash will arrive on cinema screens around the world from December 19, 2025 and according to Cameron apparently “isn’t what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want.”

“New cultures and settings… you’ll see more of Pandora the planet than you ever see saw before,” the director remarked. Cameron also promised some twists and turns ahead for the Sully family, as well as the introduction of a new character fans will “love to hate.”

Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang are also confirmed to be coming back in Toy Story 5, with the movie arriving summer 2026. The film will be directed by Pixar boss Andrew Stanton, who previously helmed the likes of Wall-E and Finding Nemo.

A single piece of Toy Story 5 artwork was revealed at D23, with a number of fan-favourite characters set to appear, including Forky. The image shows Bonnie in her room looking at a mobile tablet device, possibly suggesting shiny new technology may see her leaving her toy friends behind.

The Incredibles 3

Pixar also confirmed that The Incredibles 3 is currently in development, with director Brad Bird back in the hot seat once again. Other than an initial logo for the upcoming threequel, no other details regarding the movie were revealed at the show.

Rounding out the major D23 announcements was a first clip from TRON: Ares, with the third film in the series including the return of Jess Bridges. Joining the actor on stage were Jared Leto, Greta Lee and Evan Peters, with the latter playing the villainous Julian Dillinger.

The first footage from TRON: Ares revealed light cycles speeding through city streets and slicing cars in half, with Leto’s Ares character sent from the digital world into the real world, on a dangerous mission.

TRON: Areas will be making its way onto cinema screens on October 10, 2025 and has been directed by Joachim Rønning, who previously helmed Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
