Behind the building of the giant LEGO Fortnite Llamas

Those massive LEGO Fortnite Llamas that appeared worldwide to celebrate the mode’s launch took a lot of time and effort behind the scenes.

The latest in the LEGO Group’s collection of behind-the-scenes videos for the various massive LEGO models featured in LEGOLAND parks or used for promotion worldwide is all about LEGO Fortnite and a few massive Loot Llamas.

Released earlier this month, LEGO Fortnite is a new permanent mode in the popular game and several launch events were held around the world featuring giant LEGO Llamas on display. These models are made up of 234,323 pieces and the new video states that there are at least four of them and teams around the world were needed to recreate the iconic treasure-filled creature.

LEGO model builders from Enfield, Kladno and Jiaxing spent 850 hours building the 366cm tall llamas, which are based on the design of Fortnite’s non-LEGO Llama, instead of the creature that appears in LEGO Fortnite. It’s worth noting that the LEGO Loot Llama is itself based on the regular Fortnite Llama though.

As the centrepiece of the worldwide launch events, these massive LEGO Loot Llamas aren’t the only physical LEGO Fortnite llamas that exist. 5008257 MS LLAMA V29 was given away at these events but you can find out how to make your own by clicking here. Alternatively, LEGO stores with minifigure factories are now printing LEGO Fortnite designs including some inspired by specific Fortnite characters.

LEGO Fortnite is available to play within the main, and free, Fortnite game now on a wide variety of platforms. Winterfest is on at the time of writing with free outfits that include LEGO styles and other cosmetics to redeem every day.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
