Comparing LEGO Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile to the real vehicle

LEGO 76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile is a brick-built recreation of the iconic 1960s vehicle, but how does is compare to the real thing?

Fans of the Caped Crusader received an unexpected surprise this week, thanks to the official reveal of 76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile. The 1,822-piece LEGO Batman set will race into view on October 1, priced at £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99, and is the latest in a long line of models based on the 1960s show.

As well as being packed with plenty of details for fans to spot, 76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile also appears to be a fairly accurate recreation of the full-size vehicle. Taking a closer look at the LEGO Batman set reveals just how well the upcoming build compares to the Caped Crusader’s iconic ride.

From concept car to Batmobile

The TV show’s Batmobile actually began its screen life as a 1955 Ford concept car called the Lincoln Futura, which was then heavily-modified and transformed into the iconic crime fighting vehicle by Hollywood customiser, George Barris.

76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile looks to feature many of the stylings of its full-size companion, from dual 84” rear red and black side fins and moulded windshields, to Bat logos on the Mickey Thompson-style wheels and rear jet exhaust.

Gadgets galore

As with the 1960’s car, 76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile is packed with plenty of gadgets. The LEGO Batman model boasts a gold Batbeam on the hood, multiple devices labelled and located on the dashboard, a red Bat Phone between the seats and a Bat-Computer stored in the trunk.

We’re not sure if 76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile’s hood can be opened at this stage, but the real vehicle’s original engine and transmission famously suffered from overheating (plus a dead battery), resulting in them being replaced with spares from a Ford Galaxie.

Built to scale

While there are no details as to what the actual scale of 76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile is on the official listing, the LEGO Batman model does measure over 50cm long, 14cm high and 18cm wide. In comparison, the full-size Batmobile has a length of 226”, a wheelbase of 126.5” and is 84” wide.

In addition to the set’s scale, eagle-eyed fans of the Caped Crusader will also be able to spot that 76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile features what may be a printed recreation of the vehicle’s famous number plate, ‘2F-3567 Gotham City.’

76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile will be roaring into view online and in stores on October 1 and can be pre-ordered now, with the LEGO Batman set priced at £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99.
