First look at LEGO Speed Champions summer 2024 set

Aston Martin F1 driver Fernando Alonso has offered a sneak peek at what looks like a brand new LEGO Speed Champions set said to be racing on to shelves this summer.

Update: Instagram user ddntube says the car featured in Fernando Alonso’s Instagram story is a custom model. Even if that is the case, it probably isn’t too far away from what an official set might look like…

76925 Aston Martin Safety Car & AMR23 is one of three different LEGO Speed Champions sets currently rumoured to be joining the starting grid in June, alongside 76923 Lamborghini V12 Vision GT and 76924 Mercedes AMG GT Roadster 2024 & AMG G 63. The LEGO Group has yet to reveal or even confirm the existence of that trio, but we may have just gotten a glimpse at one of the cars in the pack.

Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso shared an image of himself with fellow Aston Martin racer Lance Stroll in his latest Instagram story, and sitting on the table in front of the pair is what appears to be a LEGO Aston Martin AMR23. The distinctive teal colourway and LEGO minifigure driver suggest we’re possibly looking at a preview of a photoshoot for the new set.

The form factor looks relatively similar to the newly-released 76919 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car too, complete with printed tyres, so that both these 2024 releases (of 2023 cars) will sit happily next to one another on a shelf. But while the McLaren is available on its own for just £20.99, the Aston Martin is said to be one half of a double-pack of cars coming in at $49.99 in the US.

76925 Aston Martin Safety Car & AMR23 is said to include 564 pieces, or 112 fewer than 2024’s first double-pack 76922 BMW M4 GT3 & BMW M Hybrid V8, which costs $5 less in the US. Maybe teal is a little more expensive than black, white and red and blue? Either way, racing fans will probably be happy to stump up the cost for what looks like another fine LEGO Formula 1 car.

Given the timing of this story, a full reveal of the summer 2024 LEGO Speed Champions sets could be right around the corner. For now, check out the table below to refresh yourself on the entire 2024 slate, including the first wave of releases that hit shelves in March.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
