Don’t expect Grogu to continue the LEGO Star Wars buildable character collection
The LEGO Group has launched a brand new collection of Star Wars buildable characters in scale with one another over the past 12 months, but don’t expect 2025’s rumoured Grogu to fit in…
LEGO Star Wars’ buildable character collection has sprung up somewhat under the radar, kicking off with the polarising 75371 Chewbacca last September and culminating (so far) with 75398 C-3PO next month. In between came 75379 R2-D2, a model that seemed a puzzling choice – the larger 75308 R2-D2 is still available at LEGO.com – until C-3PO came along.
The pieces fell into place then, as Chewie, Threepio and Artoo are all in reasonable scale with one another. It’s a small revelation that will no doubt spur sales of 75379 R2-D2 retroactively, as LEGO Star Wars fans seize the chance to display the galaxy’s most iconic droid duo together at last. And for those keen to complete the collection, it could even prompt a few additional purchases of 75371 Chewbacca.
If you’re hoping the LEGO Group might keep the train rolling in 2025, though, maybe don’t hold your breath… for now, anyway. The first list of LEGO Star Wars sets rumoured to be dropping in January includes 75403 Buildable Grogu with his Pram (surely not the final product name), and the supposed price and piece count don’t exactly lend themselves to a build scaled to R2, 3PO and Chewbacca.
The model will reportedly include 1,048 pieces – just two fewer than 75379 R2-D2 – for the same price as this year’s astromech droid, £89.99 / $99.99. Given Grogu is so much smaller than Artoo, as seen in the finale of The Mandalorian Season 2, it’s difficult to see how the LEGO Group could a) achieve any level of detail with such a tiny Grogu and b) need 1,048 parts to build the diminutive character and his hover pram at that size.
The more realistic prospect seems to be that 75403 Buildable Grogu with his Pram will instead be just that little bit too big to scale properly with the first three buildable characters in this burgeoning collection. But we shouldn’t discount the possibility altogether: it could be that the model will include smaller builds to gobble up the piece count, for example. And it will certainly need at least a few transparent pieces to simulate it hovering…
We’ll probably be waiting a while to learn more about the LEGO Star Wars 2025 sets given it’s only July, so take the rumoured set names, prices and piece counts so far with a pinch of salt. You can check out the current list as it stands in the table below.
