Last chance to vote on future fan-designed LEGO sets

Time is running out to have your say on which fan-designed LEGO sets progress to the next crowdfunding stage of the BrickLink Designer Program.

Series 3 of the BrickLink Designer Program is currently in the ‘crowd support’ phase, during which BrickLink members can add their backing to any (or all) of the 185 designs eligible to progress to the crowdfunding phase. The LEGO Group will ultimately decide which five of the fan-designed models make the cut, but the support shown for the designs could help to influence their choices.

It’s democracy of a fashion, then, so you may as well take advantage of your right to vote by heading over to BrickLink, browsing through the designs and picking out your favourites. You can choose between three different ratings per project: ‘not for me’, ‘like it’ or ‘love it’ – so if there’s a model (or models) you’d really like to see make it through to crowdfunding, now’s your chance to help it happen. You’ll need to be logged into BrickLink to cast your vote(s).

The crowd support phase is only open through October 20, so you’ve got until close of play Friday to have your say. The BrickLink team will then check all the designs for criteria including brand fit, building experience and community support, and announce the five finalists on November 20. After that begins the long process of making the models production-ready, before crowdfunding starts in October 2024.

As with the other BrickLink Designer Program series, any and all of the five designs that reach 3,000 backers during the crowdfunding phase will go into production, with a maximum of 20,000 copies of each set available to order (and a limit of two of each set per household). This may not be the end of the road for those that don’t make the grade, though: you might yet see them in BrickLink’s MOC Pop-Up Store.

In fact, a handful of models submitted to the third series of the BrickLink Designer Program are already available through the Pop-Up Store, which allows builders to purchase all the necessary pieces from BrickLink sellers and Pick a Brick. But if any of those models are selected for Series 3, it’s likely that they’ll be at least a little cheaper to buy during the crowdfunding phase than through the Pop-Up Store. Just worth bearing in mind…

Head to BrickLink to vote for your favourite Series 3 designs by October 20.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
