Unfortunate launch dates leave LEGO shoppers waiting for September releases

September 1 coincides with a major holiday in the United States, leaving some LEGO shoppers waiting longer than they’d like for new purchases.

The LEGO Group has long since preferred to release its new sets on the first of the month. That’s not a hard and fast rule and 2024 has seen a few deviations from the norm, such as 40748 Batman 8-in-1 that launched on July 17. September 1 was no different today, seeing the launch of a number of new sets. Those putting in their orders or waiting for pre-orders to ship will likely start getting shipping notifications from today and some have noticed a frustrating delay.

That’s because Labor Day falls on September 2 in the US. UPS, the delivery service that the LEGO Group tends to use in the US, does not work on Labor Day, meaning some LEGO shoppers have noticed that their deliveries are taking longer than usual. YouTuber PenPlays, for example, took to X to complain about their copy of 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 not arriving until Thursday thanks to the holiday delays.

Others in the comments have shared similar stories, with another person writing that their copy isn’t coming until Wednesday. The frustration is perhaps exacerbated seeing as 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 has been available to pre-order since May. That’s a long time to wait if you jumped on it early, meaning a few more days could feel even worse.

If you’re in the US, you might want to head in store if you can or prepare yourself for perhaps an extra day of waiting if you prefer to order online.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
