LEGO MASTERS winner reacts to 41838 Travel Moments

One of the LEGO MASTERS Season 4 champions has reviewed his own copy of 41838 Travel Moments, which takes inspiration from his and his build partner’s winning model.

Tomorrow will be a big day for Christopher and Robert, as the LEGO MASTERS Season 4 finale winners get to see their first LEGO set released at last. In addition, the creative pair will also be in attendance alongside the model’s designers and surprise LEGO MASTERS guests at a special meet and greet event at the Fifth Avenue flagship LEGO Store in New York City.

Ahead of the launch of 41838 Travel Moments, Chris (aka Duck Bricks) has released a video review of his own set, taking a deep dive into the model and revealing his honest opinion on the finished version of the build.

Created in close collaboration with LEGO designers Boone Langston and Samuel Johnson, 41838 Travel Moments is intended to be assembled by up to five people with their own brick separators and instruction manuals.

“When we were first told about the concept of the set it was actually really interesting, because I was absolutely not expecting it to go in this particular direction,” Chris states in the video. “When we initially heard that our set was going to be based [on] the World Wonderliner, I was expecting something akin to maybe the larger Boeing set that we got back in the day, or maybe something like the Concorde in terms of a gigantic plane.

“[The designers] said that this set was supposed to be something a little bit more special, and the way it was explained to us – which I really do agree with, and I actually really appreciate now – is that not only is this a set that represents our final build, but it’s also a set that represents the spirit of LEGO MASTERS: people coming together to build.”

The creator notes that the rear of 41838 Travel Moments is surprisingly colourful, with specific brick hues assisting builders with the construction of the LEGO set before the separate sections are then all pushed together. Chris was also impressed with the various colours and details that the LEGO designers used to create the look of the world map, the inclusion of multiple new printed 1×1 tile elements to mark locations and the recoloured black photo holders.

The World Wonderliner is revealed to be a solid build, one that comes with a posable stand that utilises a LEGO DREAMZzz ratchet piece and printed names on the sides of the plane (no stickers in this set, folks). The jet’s stand also features a few sneaky surprises hidden inside, but we won’t spoil what they are for those planning to pick up the model.

In addition, the World Wonderliner’s base also includes the ability to slot the set’s photo holders into it, should you decide to display 41838 Travel Moments’ world map flat with the jet placed next to it.

“I think that this makes for a really nice display model for fans of LEGO who also want to display their love for travel in their homes,” Chris summarised. “I think the world map is a really nice map to display, and arguably maybe I’m a little bit biased here, but I like it a little better than [31202 World Map], mostly because it is just more of an engaging build.”

There’s no mention in the review regarding the previously announced US exclusives for the set, suggesting they may not have been included in the version that was sent to Christopher. The creator seems generally happy and humbled with the final model overall, although he does mention one sticking point: “I feel like for a standard LEGO set I would have expected it to be just a little bit cheaper.”

You’ll be able to check out 41838 Travel Moments for yourself from August 1, with the set priced at £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99.
