LEGO Technic 42177 Mercedes-Benz G 500 PROFESSIONAL Line officially revealed

The LEGO Group has revealed another LEGO Technic set racing on to shelves in August, this time going off-road with 42177 Mercedes-Benz G 500 PROFESSIONAL Line.

Designed to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (don’t tell us you weren’t aware of this momentous milestone), the 2,891-piece model is the biggest LEGO Technic set in the new reddish orange colourway yet. It appears to fit into the same category of sets as 42110 Land Rover Defender, and should look pretty snazzy on a shelf next to that 2019 set.

It’s got more than looks going for it, too: 42177 Mercedes-Benz G 500 PROFESSIONAL Line includes an opening bonnet that houses a six-cylinder in-line piston engine; a gearbox with drive, neutral and reverse settings; two differential locks; and opening doors and tailgate. Accessories include a roof rack, spare wheel and ladder.

The finished model comes in at 22cm tall, 43cm long and 20cm wide – or almost exactly the same dimensions as the Defender, at just 1cm longer – and will retail for £219.99 in the UK, $249.99 in the US and €249.99 in Europe. You can pre-order your copy from LEGO.com today, with a shipping date of August 1, 2024.

42177 Mercedes-Benz G 500 PROFESSIONAL Line follows hot on the heels of the newly-revealed 42172 McLaren P1, another new LEGO Technic set dropping in August, and joins a healthy complement of sets available to buy in just a few weeks. Check out the full roster in the table below, which includes every single LEGO Technic set confirmed for release in 2024.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
