LEGO Animal Crossing sets deserve a CMF expansion series

If there’s one theme that’s crying out for its own CMF expansion series, it must be the recently-revealed LEGO Animal Crossing sets.

We got our first official look earlier this week at five LEGO Animal Crossing models, all of which are due to launch on March 1, 2024. The builds are based on characters and locations from the popular Nintendo simulation game series, complete with familiar island villagers, buildings and accessories.

While it’s only the five LEGO Animal Crossing sets that have been confirmed so far, it’s not hard to imagine that more might potentially be added at some point if the initial releases prove to be a hit. While that’s pure speculation on our part at this point, loyal Animal Crossing fans would undoubtedly be keen to see such locations as the museum, town hall, police station and post office recreated in brick form as part of the theme’s line-up.

One other area where the LEGO Animal Crossing sets look rife for possible expansion would be its initial collection of minifigures. The models revealed to date include eight such characters from the Animal Crossing games including the likes of Tom Nook, Rosie, Kapp’n, Marshall and more. Each of the LEGO Animal Crossing minifigures features a new head piece and unique torso printing, making the sets highly-desirable for fans of the games.

However, there are many more Animal Crossing villagers that could be recreated in minifigure form, such as K.K. Slider, Raymond, Stitches, Coco, Roald, Kabuki, Ankha and numerous other island denizens. With that in mind, we’re going to go out on a limb and suggest that the LEGO Animal Crossing theme would be a perfect candidate for its own CMF series.

The formerly blind-bagged packs recently received a packaging makeover, with LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71039 Marvel Series 2 proving to be a controversial release to say the least. However, if the LEGO Group is determined to stick with the new-look cardboard box design, then a line-up of LEGO Animal Crossing characters to expand the playability of the initial sets would seem to be a no-brainer.

Having said that, some initial fan reactions to the LEGO Animal Crossing reveal have been less-than positive, so it will ultimately be the success of the first five sets that would be required to pave the way for any future releases based around the world of the video game villagers.
