LEGO Marvel 76269 Avengers Tower rumoured to return two lesser-spotted superheroes

LEGO Marvel 76269 Avengers Tower is rumoured to be packed with ‘at least’ 22 minifigures – including two that it’s surprising aren’t already on shelves.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has mostly pulled away from the core team of Avengers who kick-started the entire thing in the late ‘00s and early ‘10s, the LEGO Group has consistently revisited Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Hulk in its Marvel theme. As of summer 2023, though, only four of those characters are readily available in sets in their MCU form.

You’ll find Iron Man in 76216 Iron Man Armory, 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum and 76248 The Avengers Quinjet; Captain America and Black Widow in 76248 The Avengers Quinjet and 76260 Black Widow & Captain America Motorcycles; and Thor in 76207 Attack on New Asgard, 76208 The Goat Boat, 76209 Thor’s Hammer and 76248 The Avengers Quinjet.

Hawkeye last appeared on shelves in January 2020’s 76143 Avengers Truck Take-down, which retired after only 18 months. He’s been AWOL since, even while an entire TV show dedicated to everyone’s least favourite Avenger has debuted on Disney+. Hulk, meanwhile, is currently available as a standard minifigure in 76241 Hulk Mech Armor, but in a design reflective of his comic book appearance rather than in the MCU.

Given the core six Avengers are effectively to the MCU what Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia are to Star Wars, it’s surprising the entire crew aren’t perpetually accessible in their silver screen outfits. If recent rumours are to be believed, though, that will change come the end of the year. According to Brick Clicker, 76269 Avengers Tower will include brand new MCU variants of both Hulk and Hawkeye.

More importantly, the lean, green superhero machine will apparently be a bigfig – his first since the 4+ set 76152 Avengers: Wrath of Loki arrived in summer 2020, before retiring at the end of 2021. 76269 Avengers Tower is rumoured to launch in November 2023, almost exactly two years after the last Hulk bigfig disappeared from shelves.

In the grand scheme of things, 24 or 30 months without a Hulk bigfig or Hawkeye minifigure (respectively) perhaps isn’t the end of the world. But for anyone hopping on board the LEGO Marvel train since the beginning of 2022, these characters have only been accessible through the aftermarket. Now you’ll seemingly be able to get them in a $525 set instead. Which is… better? Maybe? Hawkeye will at least also be available (rumour has it) in 71039 Marvel Series 2, but that’s still to be confirmed.

The full list of minifigures reportedly filling out 76269 Avengers Tower includes (but is not limited to) Iron Man (with two new and different suits), Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk (in bigfig form), Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Falcon, War Machine, Tony Stark, Nick Fury, Pepper Potts, Helen Cho, Wong, an Ant-Man microfigure, Wasp, Ultron and four Chitauri.

One notable exclusion from that list as it stands is Quicksilver, which the LEGO community has been quick to point out – but Brick Clicker notes that more could yet be among the roster. We’ll find out if and when the LEGO Group officially unveils 76269 Avengers Tower ahead of its rumoured November 24 release date, but until then, take this entire line-up with a grain of salt.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
