LEGO’s brick-built toilet fascination continues with 21344 Orient Express

Today’s first glimpse of LEGO Ideas 21344 Orient Express Train reveals an incredibly detailed model, one that contains yet another brick-built toilet.

Thanks to images in an official LEGO catalogue, we’ve now had our first glimpse of the upcoming LEGO Ideas 21344 Orient Express Train. The look of the iconic engine is based on a concept by fan designer Thomas Lajon and features a matching dark blue locomotive, coal tender and two carriages, plus what appears to be eight minifigures.

From the limited images we’ve seen so far, it also seems as if 21344 Orient Express Train will live up to its real-life namesake, with a highly-detailed interior worthy of its opulent reputation. Of note is a luxurious passenger compartment complete with sofa, bed and typewriter, plus a fully-stocked bar for wealthy guests.

Also of note is a familiar returning feature, one that seems to hold a peculiar fascination for the LEGO Group, a brick-built toilet. These have popped up in a number of sets of late, most recently in 10325 Alpine Lodge, 10318 Concorde and 71799 NINJAGO City Markets.

This time around it’s 21344 Orient Express Train that benefits from the inclusion of such a bathroom facility, with at least one toilet we’ve spotted in a passenger car, complete with loo roll within easy reach. While that level of attention-to-detail is to be applauded, we’re starting to spot a worrying trend as the LEGO Group seemingly attempts to add the porcelain sanitary hardware to even more models…

There’s currently no official word on when 21344 Orient Express Train might be chuffing into view, nor a piece count or potential price point. We suspect the model should be arriving at some point later this year and we’ll be providing updates as soon as we have any more information.
