LEGO reveals US-exclusive edition of LEGO MASTERS set 41838 Travel Moments

The LEGO Group has revealed that the US will receive an exclusive edition of 41838 Travel Moments, an upcoming set inspired by the winning build of LEGO MASTERS Season 4.

The first images of 41838 Travel Moments dropped through a third-party retailer earlier this month, revealing a condensed take on Christopher and Robert’s sprawling design from the LEGO MASTERS Season 4 finale. It’s designed to be built collaboratively by up to five people, with separate bags, buildings instructions and ‘modular components’ included in the box.

The LEGO Group has now confirmed that a portrait of Christopher and Robert and other ‘exclusive content’ will also be included in the US version of 41838 Travel Moments, though details are vague at this stage on what that other content might be. Either way, it’s the first time in a while that the LEGO Group has locked part of a regular retail product to a specific region, following its promise to abandon regional exclusivity (with certain caveats) in 2019.

Exclusions to that policy include gifts-with-purchase, products sold at certain experiences (LEGO House, LEGOLAND and so on), pilot projects (such as Forma, if you remember that) and ‘special event sets’ such as the LEGO Inside Tour and conventions. If we’re being generous, the regional variant of 41838 Travel Moments could maybe come under the latter, as LEGO MASTERS is sort of a special event.

As previously revealed, 41838 Travel Moments includes a flat map of the Earth, a ‘world wonderliner’ plane, elements to personalise the map (and check off the destinations you’ve visited) and clips for holding souvenirs, photos and postcards. It’s due to launch at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores on August 1, and is available to pre-order now.

41838 Travel Moments will retail for £129.99 in the UK, $149.99 in the US and €149.99 in Europe, and includes 1,231 pieces.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

I’m tired of regional exclusives. Even if I liked this set, I’d be boycotting this because of this.
