LEGO’s digital office in Copenhagen is expanding already

In July 2022, a new digital office for the LEGO Group was opened in Copenhagen and it’s already receiving its first expansion.

Just over a year after it opened in the wake of new partnerships with Epic Games and the DQ Institute, the LEGO Group’s digital office in Copenhagen needs an expansion to extend the workspace to another floor.

Currently hosting over 300 employees, the Copenhagen office exists physically, despite the name of the workspace, but instead handles digital aspects of the company in a physical location, of course, decorated with LEGO and bright colours.

“We are delighted to be expanding our digital workspace in Copenhagen, literally taking it to the next level, which reflects the great progress we’ve made in becoming a more digital business,” said Chief Digital & Technology Officer Atul Bhardwaj.

“Innovative digital solutions are a vital part of making every LEGO brand experience awesome, with the LEGO brick at our heart – whether that’s for people who play with our products, shop with us or partner with us, or who are our colleagues.”

The LEGO Group’s digital endeavours are an important part of the company today, ranging from online partnerships to the operation of the official online store. By the end of 2023, the LEGO Group aims to triple the size of its digital team which consists of around 1,800 digital colleagues in Billund, Copenhagen, London, and Shanghai.

“Building awesome LEGO experiences requires us to continuously recruit talented new colleagues but digital talent is limited and highly sought-after,” continues Atul. “The central location in Copenhagen has proven to be great for attracting the local and international top-tier talent we set out to welcome in Copenhagen.

“To our diverse workforce of 23 nationalities, it means a lot that there is an international vibe, and easy access to our colleagues in Billund and the rest of the world. We are committed to further investing in creating a playful and creative work environment and look forward to continued growth and digital advances with the team.”

This news follows the recent announcement of a huge expansion of the LEGO Group’s factory in Hungary.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
