The upcoming LEGO DREAMZzz sets are missing a major character

There’s a major character missing from the upcoming LEGO DREAMZzz sets – one that makes a prominent appearance in the TV show.

The LEGO Group will be launching a brand-new theme on August 1, 2023 – one that’s been researched, workshopped and carefully developed over a number of years, We’re talking, of course, about LEGO DREAMZzz, an upcoming fantasy range of products aimed at encouraging builders to unleash their imaginations by harnessing the power of dreams.

As well as 12 confirmed sets launching on that date, an animated TV show also exists, with 10 initial episodes available to watch right now. The series reveals how the main cast of characters crosses over from the waking world to the dream realm, taking their first tentative steps in an epic battle against the villainous Nightmare King.

The core Dream Crafters have the ability use special hourglasses to assemble elements into new forms, some of which combine multiple objects into one. Therefore, Izzie can ride on the back of her giant cuddly toy, as seen in 71453 Izzie and Bunchu the Bunny, while her brother Mateo can travel around on his transformed green friend, as in 71454 Mateo and Z-Blob the Robot.

However, there’s one prominent character missing from the upcoming LEGO DREAMZzz sets, with Zoey’s huge steed, Zian, absent from the first wave of models. A large, winged griffin, the beast has an owl-like appearance and pops up in a number of episodes of the animated show. The creature is practically begging to be interpreted as a brick-built creation, so it’s odd that Zian is missing from the initial product line-up.

In fact, the closest Zoey gets to a flying steed is in 71457 Pegasus Flying Horse, which comes with bird for the moody Dream Crafter to ride on. Strangely enough, the Nightmare King’s four-legged companion hasn’t actually appeared in the LEGO DREAMZzz show so far, making it an odd choice to replace Zian. Likewise, Zoey is also included in 71459 Stable of Dream Creatures alongside a brick-built flying Pegasus – yet another replacement for her loyal griffin.

Of course, it’s possible that the character might get a chance to stretch its wings in a future LEGO DREAMZzz set at some point, assuming the theme proves to be a hit with its target audience when the first wave of sets arrived on August 1.
