LEGO Fortnite 77070 Durrr Burger review

LEGO Fortnite’s smallest set is a complex and sizeable build for the price, but that might not be enough to overcome its biggest challenge.

LEGO Fortnite’s first four sets are surprisingly varied in price, ranging from £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 for the two biggest creations down to just £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99 for 77070 Durrr Burger. Even for that price though, it’s going to be hard to choose this model over the others for a variety of reasons – not least the strength of the rest of the Fortnite range.

‘Durrr’ says the burger

To the untrained eye, Durrr Burger will certainly come across as one of the most visually perplexing subjects that a LEGO set has covered to date. For context, the unique face of this fast-casual restaurant mascot is the signature of the titular brand as well as a popular Fortnite character.

To best recreate this expression, 77070 Durrr Burger employs a variety of techniques and curved elements to depict texture, the correct angles and more with only one notable sacrifice. The bottom bun is hollow, but this won’t be on show most of the time anyway and to fill it would have unnecessarily added to the piece count. It’s a commendable effort from the designers and a surprising success, as weird as this build inherently is.

Complicated build and lore

Drift minifigure not included.

The build of 77070 Durrr Burger is surprisingly challenging for the price, serving up one of the most in-depth models released in recent months. This includes building in different directions, positioning the top section at an angle to get the eyes in the correct position and much more. Don’t be deceived: this burger is meaty when it comes to LEGO techniques. That’s not all that’s complicated about the burger though.

In the Fortnite story, the Durrr Burger is the mascot of a fast-food restaurant chain of the same name. It’s also inspired an outfit in-game that was the subject of its own mode. More importantly, it’s the reason that Drift in 77073 Battle Bus has a minifigure. Without delving into too many details, this burger mascot statue was transported to the real world via a rift in reality and for a short time, it could genuinely be found in a California desert.

Just before it disappeared, a ‘real’ graffiti artist tagged the sculpture as it was rifted back to the Fortnite island, taking the artist with them. That person became the Drift outfit, who appears as a minifigure in 77073 Battle Bus. This would have been a perfect set for his minifigure but the LEGO designers are daring to keep the focus solely on the brick-built burger, for better or worse.

Would you like fries with that?

The finer details of 77070 Durrr Burger carry much weight considering the size of the set, with some notable part usage on display including on the olive, the tongue and the eyes. The latter even makes use of BB-8’s ball body from LEGO Star Wars.

77070 Durrr Burger has proven itself as one of the most creative LEGO Fortnite sets in the launch wave, but that doesn’t make it the most appealing. Compared to the likes of 77072 Peely Bone and 77073 Battle Bus specifically, this entry won’t be anyone’s first choice, unless you’re shopping for a very specific reason.

Picking up any of the four LEGO Fortnite sets will qualify you for a free Operation Brite Starter Pack, valued at £2.79 / $3.49 / €3.49. That starter pack includes an outfit, LEGO decor items and a Back Bling. You can find out more by clicking here. As the smallest and least expensive LEGO Fortnite set, 77070 Durrr Burger is ideal for players wanting to take advantage of this deal, but without the budget for the other three models. From that perspective, 77070 Durrr Burger is a must-have. For everyone else, it’s safe to miss until you’ve got most of the other models.
