LEGO Fortnite designers explain 77073 Battle Bus minifigure selection

The design team behind the upcoming LEGO Fortnite sets has revealed why 77073 Battle Bus includes nine specific minifigure characters.

Fans have been waiting a long time for LEGO Fortnite sets to be released and their patience will soon be rewarded. Four models are included in the first wave of LEGO Fortnite releases launching on October 1, with 77070 Durrr Burger, 77071 Supply Llama, 77072 Peely Bone and 77073 Battle Bus all offering up distinctly different video game builds.

Based on a partnership between the LEGO Group and Epic Games, the LEGO Fortnite sets represent a leap from the digital world into the physical realm. While 77073 Battle Bus is the only upcoming model to feature a number of fan-favourite minifigures, there is a reason why each of the characters was chosen for inclusion in the build.

In a recent roundtable interview, Brick Fanatics chatted with the LEGO Fortnite design team about the set’s minifigure selection and why the likes of Battalion Brawler, Adventure Peely, Brite Bomber and Cuddle Team Leader were ultimately chosen to accompany 77073 Battle Bus.

“We selected a handful of characters,” explained designer Erik Jensen, “and we wanted kids to have some conflict play if they purchased 77073 Battle Bus. So we chose some good guy and bad guy outfits, such as Raven, Cube Assassin and Trespasser Elite. Some of those characters are very well known as antagonists in Fortnite.”

“We’re including some of the more popular and colourful characters,” added senior designer John Cuppage, “just in terms of their bright, outstanding costumes. It was important to have those really iconic characters at the forefront.”

“Also, the reason why we threw in all of the minifigures into [77073 Battle Bus],” Erik commented, “was that Epic Games really wanted to jam-pack the Bus with as many minifigures as possible. So we took all of our minifigure resources and crammed it full. Every single seat is filled with a minifigure!”

You’ll be able to check out the minifigure selection included with 77073 Battle Bus when the model arrives online and in stores on October 1, alongside three more upcoming LEGO Fortnite creations.
