LEGO Fortnite’s brand-new fast travel comes to an immediate halt

LEGO Fortnite launched a new update that introduced fast travel and bus stops yesterday but the new features have hit immediate delays.

Epic Games planned a fresh update, launching on August 7. LEGO Fortnite v30.40 allows players to take a flying bus to fast travel in your world, with new blue Bus Stations as the departure point. A Battle Bus will come and pick you up to take you to other locations in seconds, meaning you can move around much faster. You can also build your own bus stop by destroying a Bus Station for Rift Shards, an ingredient for this build.

However, some players still haven’t been able to try out the new feature. Just a few hours after the update launch, LEGO Fortnite took to X to address an ongoing issue with Battle Buses never appearing at Stations, and Bus Stations being indestructible, meaning players can’t collect Rift Shards.

“We are aware that the Battle Bus may not arrive at the station,” the statement reads. “We are also looking into an issue where the Bus Stations may appear indestructible. We are actively investigating and will provide an update when we have one.”

Even now, more than a day after the update’s launch, players are still reporting issues with not being able to try out fast travel. Posting at around 1.30pm (BST) on August 7, one redditor said: “My bus stops don’t work (tried several in case it was just a bugged one) and I can’t break any of them either. Hoping for a hotfix I guess but is this everyone?”

However, another post reveals a hack to break an unresponsive bus station, so you can still get hold of the Rift Shards. The method involves putting a staircase and connecting to the Bus Station, then slamming it with a pickaxe. This shatters the Station and allows you to collect the Shards, although it’s worth noting that building your own Station doesn’t seem to trigger the Battle Bus. If it didn’t come for the pre-made Stations, it likely won’t come for your own creations either.

One plus side is that some gamers are speculating that the Bus Stations ‘broken’ in the hotfix detailed above could remain one Epic Games fixes the issue. This would effectively provide double the Stations and double the Shards, giving you more options to create your own Stations – once they’re working again, naturally.

It’s unclear how many players are still being affected but, seeing as LEGO Fortnite hasn’t put out an official notice that the bug has been fixed, the issue seems to be fairly widespread. As of 2.25pm on August 7, the LEGO Fortnite team confirmed that: “Our team is currently working on the issue. If there is any news available, we’ll update them on [this post].”
