LEGO Fortnite has the perfect replacement for LEGO Marvel

A missing minifigure in LEGO Marvel suggests that the LEGO Group needs a Deadpool replacement and LEGO Fortnite has the solution.

After a trio of successful movies, Deadpool has become one of the most popular Marvel characters, but evidence suggests that the LEGO Group is not currently interested in returning to him.

Deadpool’s only minifigure is featured in the retired 6866 Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown, which goes for an average of £165.87 on BrickLink for a new copy. Fortnite recently released a duo of outfits for Deadpool & Wolverine but only the latter character has a LEGO Style. Deadpool’s original outfit has not been given a LEGO Style either despite most other Marvel characters getting one.

The evidence would suggest that the LEGO Group is not interested in Deadpool anymore, potentially after his violent outings on the big screen in the past few years. As well as the movies, Deadpool’s appeal partially comes from his fourth-wall-breaking abilities, which would add an interesting aspect to current-day LEGO Marvel

Thankfully, the most recent season of Fortnite has a near-perfect solution with a character that has successfully received a LEGO style – Gwenpool. For the unaware, Gwenpool is not a combination of Gwen Stacy and Deadpool. She is a character from the real world named Gwendolyn Poole who travels to the Marvel universe with all the knowledge of a hyper-obsessed Marvel Comics fan.

This allows Gwenpool to have fourth-wall-breaking abilities comparable to Deadpool, but with a different personality and less explicit violence than the modern iteration of Deadpool has become known for.

Just as Deadpool was featured in the first LEGO Marvel video game, Gwenpool had a similar spot in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. Gwenpool’s appearance in Fortnite and LEGO Fortnite is just the latest acknowledgement of the character from the LEGO Group.

Should the LEGO Group be avoiding Deadpool after Ryan Reynolds’ take on the character, Gwenpool is a near-perfect replacement. While her LEGO Style in Fortnite features a new hood element, her minifigure in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 uses only standard pieces and either iteration would work wonders.

There might not be much chance of another official LEGO Deadpool minifigure in the future, but Gwenpool shows that all hope is not lost, as long as you expand your expectations. Ideally, LEGO Deadpool will be back one day though.

At the time of writing, Gwenpool’s LEGO minifigures only exist digitally but at least the LEGO Group are aware of and interested enough in the character to have her be represented as a minifigure currently, unlike Deadpool. You can pick up the latest digital Gwenpool minifigure as part of Fortnite’s Absolute Doom season now in the Battle Pass for 950 V-Bucks.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
