LEGO Friends is changing the LEGO real estate game

Two LEGO Friends sets are drastically changing the LEGO real estate game, both in the theme and in other product ranges too.

A pair of newly-revealed LEGO Friends sets (mostly) listed for release in 2024, 42620 Olly and Paisley’s Family Home and 42639 (name unknown at this time) look set to dramatically change the course of LEGO homes in Heartlake City and minifigure-scale displays alike.

LEGO mansions aren’t rare, but 42639 immediately sets itself apart with a distinctly modern design that only a few sets have explored previously – two of which are in LEGO Friends. While its design on top of the hill is similar to 41135 Livi’s Pop Star House and – to an extent – the smaller 76007 Iron Man Malibu Mansion Attack, the bottom level of this LEGO mansion is unlike any other before it.

The inclusion of a garage embedded into the hill makes 42639 distinctly different and arguably a lot more appealing for LEGO enthusiasts to display in their city as well as for minifigures to live in. The colour scheme is mostly neutral too and the colourful tiles and pieces should be able to be swapped with other elements, as far as we can tell.

The majority of LEGO mansions before 42639 have embraced traditional, classic architecture, which only makes 42639 stand out from the crowd even further. Based on this initial image

42620 Olly and Paisley’s Family Home presents a pair of suburban houses, both of which have distinctly different designs compared to other LEGO houses currently available or released previously. Looking at the homes next to 60398 Family House and Electric Car and 31139 Cosy House for instance, the shape of the roofs and the colour schemes aren’t particularly outlandish, but manage to set the builds apart from any other LEGO house available.

While a look at the interiors has yet to be revealed, it’s a strong start for the 2024 LEGO Friends set and the scale is suitable for minifigures too, in case you want to rehome Olly, Paisley and their families before adding it to your custom city.

These are just two of the surprisingly versatile sets in LEGO Friends’ recent reboot but make it clear that the theme is one to consider for homes and other amenities for minifigure-centric displays, even compared to LEGO City.

Both of these LEGO Friends have yet to appear on LEGO.com, but listings suggest that they could release in 2024. Official details have yet to be released, and there’s nothing currently known about 42639.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
