LEGO gamescom 2024 schedule revealed: Mario Kart, LEGO 2K Drive and more

The LEGO Group has a surprisingly big presence at gamescom this year, with multiple panels scheduled for the annual gaming event – including talks on LEGO Mario Kart and LEGO 2K Drive.

Nintendo and the LEGO Group have already revealed nine new sets coming our way in 2025 at gamescom in Cologne, spread between LEGO Animal Crossing and LEGO Mario Kart. And more info on the companies’ first foray into racing together will apparently forthcoming in just a few hours, as the LEGO Group’s schedule for day one of gamescom is packed with multiple panels.

An image of the schedule from Promobricks (who are on the ground at the event) confirms that two major panels will take place on August 21, hooked to LEGO Mario Kart and LEGO 2K Drive. The timing of the latter panel is especially curious, as 2K Games’ racing title is seemingly done and dusted following the culmination of its first year of additional content.

Given the Mario Kart panel will be firmly focused on what’s around the corner for the LEGO Group in the video game space, there’s a good chance 2K Games could be prepping to reveal what’s next for LEGO 2K Drive. More downloadable content, a possible tie-in with LEGO Mario Kart (likely exclusive to the Switch version) or even a sequel game could all the on the cards.

Or it could just be a panel looking back at how LEGO 2K Drive performed, its impact and legacy for 2K Games’ LEGO titles and so on. We’ll find out later today, as the panel is currently scheduled for 4.15pm CEST. That’s one hour ahead of UK time for those playing along at home. Check out the full LEGO gamescom 2024 schedule for August 21 in the table below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
