LEGO Harry Potter could learn something from LEGO Wicked

LEGO Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Moment sets walked so LEGO Wicked 75683 Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory could run.

Four LEGO Wicked sets due for release in October have been officially revealed by the LEGO Group, including 75683 Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory. The set features the picture-perfect dormitory shared by star-crossed besties Glinda and Elphaba but it can also close together to form a brick-built chest, complete with a rose, box, and a box of green elixir perched on top.

The interior is revealed on hinges for play, while the exterior works well as a display piece, creating a nice balance between the two. It’s not the first time that the LEGO Group has attempted such a set, reminding us of the now-retired LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Moment sets. Each one featured a different classroom tied to a different Hogwarts house, folding in to become a book in the house colours.

While this was a fun idea on the surface, the execution left something to be desired. The in-universe colour scheme of scarlet red, emerald green, bright yellow, and royal blue came out more drab and bland in the brick-built versions and the compact display versions of the sets didn’t pack quite the visual punch that they could have done.

It seems the LEGO Wicked team has taken what worked well from the Hogwarts Moments – namely the folding function to represent individual rooms – and added more flair and colour to the build to create 75683 Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory. The LEGO Wicked set works just as well when folded together as it does when it opens up, offering a dynamic and detailed playset that also folds away for a neat display model.

It’s interesting to track the progression of similar sets across different themes throughout the years and the fine-tuning has certainly paid off in the case of 75683 Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory. Check out all the details for the fledgling LEGO Wicked theme below.
