LEGO accidentally replaces Harry Potter freebie with unreleased set

A ‘warehouse mistake’ has left one LEGO fan bemused after their purchase of the latest Harry Potter D2C arrived with a free copy of the unreleased Pharrell LEGO set.

The LEGO Group has been known to ship out the wrong set from time to time, or occasionally send two copies of a product instead of one, but dispatching unreleased sets is much less common. Probably the only time it’s happened in recent memory was when 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition turned up with shoppers in New Zealand who ordered 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle.

Call it a coincidence, call it magic, but the LEGO Harry Potter theme is now again at the centre of an accidental delivery of an unreleased product. Only this time instead of getting a future Wizarding World set, redditor NoahDavidATL ordered the brand new direct-to-consumer model 76437 The Burrow Collectors’ Edition – and reportedly received a copy of 10391 Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams in place of their expected 40695 Borgin and Burkes: Floo Network gift-with-purchase.

That 190-piece freebie is currently available with all LEGO Harry Potter purchases above £120 / $130 / €130, and so all orders of 76437 The Burrow Collectors’ Edition will automatically qualify for the companion model. But NoahDavidATL posted an image to the LEGO subreddit of the package they received, and instead of the Floo Network free gift, it apparently included the first tie-in set for Piece by Piece, the upcoming Pharrell biopic.

10391 Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams officially launches on September 20, a couple of weeks ahead of the movie’s theatrical release in the US, and so the only people who have it in hand at the moment are those fortunate enough to receive review copies. Its inclusion in this order is obviously a mistake, but it’s a curious one given the extreme difference in size between 10391 and 40695.

NoahDavidATL wrote on reddit that they’ve contacted the LEGO Group to inquire about the error, and the company has apparently confirmed it’s a ‘warehouse mistake’ and shipped out a replacement copy of 40695 Borgin and Burkes: Floo Network to make amends. It’s also requested that the redditor returns the Pharrell set using a pre-paid return label – but the builder says they’re intending to keep it, having had no takers when offering to sell it to YouTubers or influencers.

76437 The Burrow Collectors’ Edition is available now, and qualifies for up to three gifts around the world. 40695 Borgin and Burkes: Floo Network is free with all LEGO Harry Potter orders above £120 / $130 / €130, while 30677 Draco in the Forbidden Forest is free with Harry Potter spends above £35 / $40 / €40. US shoppers can also still get their hands on 5009008 Collectible Weasley Clock, which is free exclusively with the Burrow, but has already sold out online in the UK.

Those freebies will only be available through September 10, so time is quickly running out to take advantage. 10391 Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams launches September 20 for £94.99 / $109.99 / €109.99 and is available to pre-order now.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

so what I got from this is that the customer placed an order, got something extra and much more expensive… complaind to lego that they didn’t recieve the free item, will initially get the item from lego to make up for the mistake and in true fashion rather than doing what’s right, they’re gonna take the low road and keep the item… and we wonder what’s wrong with the world…. prime example right here.

If this is in the US, then this is a crime. If the company is requesting the item to be returned to them at no cost to the recipient, keeping the item is considered theft.
