LEGO Ideas 10K Vintage Radio may struggle at review stage

The latest LEGO Ideas submission to cross the 10K line is Vintage Radio, an updated fan design that may well struggle at the second 2024 review stage.

The LEGO Ideas team recently announced the results of the third 2023 review, revealing exactly which fan-designed creations will become physical sets at some point in the future. In the meantime, new submissions for the second 2024 review continue to drum up 10,000 supporters, with the latest to hit that magic number being Vintage Radio.

The model is the brainchild of dimexart, whose Popcorn Machine has already managed to make it into the 10K club for the second 2024 review. The original version of Vintage Radio received enough support to push it into the first 2023 review last year, but it was ultimately rejected alongside 68 other designs.

This time around, Vintage Radio has been slightly tweaked to incorporate the addition of a smart phone in the back of the build. Sound familiar? Well, it should as the fan design shares more than a passing similarity to 10334 Retro Radio, a 906-piece LEGO Icons set that launched earlier this year, one that also features the option to add a mobile device for playing music.

While we’ve certainly seen colour-swapped versions of LEGO models released before, such as Technic and Creator builds, it’s unlikely that the latest addition to Vintage Radio will be enough to allow the fan-design to make it much further in the second 2024 review.

We’ll find out for sure when the results of the latest round of LEGO Ideas submissions will be revealed later this year.
