LEGO Ideas 21343 Viking Village has an unusual Marvel companion set

When it comes to unusual companion sets, a LEGO Marvel model from 2022 pairs surprisingly well with the upcoming 21343 Viking Village.

Another worthy addition to the LEGO Ideas range was officially revealed this week, with 21343 Viking Village arriving on October 1 for £124.99 / $129.99 / €139.99. The 2,103-piece build is based on a concept by fan designer BrickHammer (aka Florian) and is the theme’s 51st model.

21343 Viking Village features three Norse-inspired sections, which can be combined together or displayed separately. The LEGO Ideas sets comes with four unique minifigures, multiple new printed pieces and all kinds of secrets just waiting to be discovered. In addition, the upcoming build also acts as a semi-companion model to last year’s 31132 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent, with the Creator 3-in-1 set due to retire at the end of this year.

However, there’s also another model that could potentially take the latter’s place, one that comes from a slightly unlikely theme. 76208 The Goat Boat was released in early 2022, with the 564-piece build spinning out of the events seen in the MCU’s Thor: Love and Thunder. The set includes its own version of a Viking longboat, plus two brick-built goats and five minifigures with various weapons.

It’s not hard to imagine how the LEGO Marvel model could be adapted to work alongside 21343 Viking Village, with only a few minor modifications required to allow the set to sit comfortably alongside the LEGO Ideas build. Many of the included minifigure elements and accessories would make fine additions to the upcoming release and some artistic licence would have to be taken with specific stickered and printed elements, but there’s certainly plenty of potential there.

21343 Viking Village will be launching online and in-stores on October 1, 2023, priced at £124.99 / $129.99 / €139.99.
