LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale visual tour and gallery

The curtain has been lifted on LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale, ready to show every detail and more in our latest tour.

The newly-revealed 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale is rife with references and faithful depictions of elements in the tabletop roleplaying game. For £314.99 / $359.99 / €359.99, it’s the ultimate LEGO Dungeons & Dragons model coming to shelves early next month.

From April 1, LEGO Insiders can score the new set but before then, our latest visual guide is here to take you on a tour of every minifigure, detail and more – dice in hand and spells at the ready and let’s hope you roll high on your initiative.

LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale build

The build of 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale is split into three sections, literally. The entire model is modular to be easily transported. The three areas combine to make up one massive set and they consist of a tavern, a meadow with a ruined wall and a raised cliff as well as a tall tower that holds everything you need for a nefarious arcane ritual. That’s not including the dungeon underground spanning the width of the set.

The scale isn’t too far off from the likes of 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle and 10332 Medieval Town Square and it’s designed to be interacted with alongside a group of friends, with an accompanying exclusive adventure to boot.

LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale monsters

The monsters in 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale are a highlight of the model, especially for longtime players. All of the classic monsters are here from (surprise) a red dragon, an Owlbear, Gelatinous Cubes, a Black Pudding, a Displacer Beast and a many-eyed Beholder. Add to that some spiders and some classic LEGO skeletons and you’re sure to earn enough XP to level up, unless you’re using milestone XP.

With a variety of new eye prints, these LEGO monster figures can be used as figures in the set or miniatures in your campaigns at home. The rebuildable nature of them makes them easier to customise over and over again than standard miniatures too – no paint or primer required.

LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale minifigures

While the monsters in 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale are a highlight, the minifigures are arguably more impressive for their diversity alone. The minifigures include four player characters featuring a Dwarven Cleric, a Halfling Fighter, an Orc Rogue and an Elf Wizard. That’s as well as the human tavern keeper and a Dragonborn.

From bringing back a LEGO VIDIYO piece to providing extra minifigure heads for each character to customise their gender and appearance and even leaving skin colours off the torso and legs to provide more opportunities to personalise them, a lot of thought has gone into the minifigure selection.

LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale details

Looking closely at 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale, the set is designed to pose minifigures in battles or encounters with monsters and there’s a lot of open space for this, but nothing is bereft of detail. The greenery scattered in the meadow, for example, doesn’t stop minifigures from being placed down but looks better than a plain field of green studs.

Some of the most interesting details in the set aside from its minifigure-friendly design including a pun for the tavern’s name, a strange family portrait and an interior for the tavern that was not visible or simply not included in the original project.

LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale Easter eggs

It wouldn’t be a new LEGO set without some Easter eggs and arguably, 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale is one of the best models for them.

We’ve spotted a shrine to the five-headed draconic goddess of evil dragons in the bottom level of the tower and some spell scrolls using new printed designs that could be useful for Majisto to learn in LEGO Castle.

LEGO Ideas 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale will be available for LEGO Insiders from April 1 and launch widely on April 4. Those who purchase the £314.99 / $359.99 / €359.99 set before April 7 will also score a free Mimic Dice Box gift-with-purchase while stocks last with a LEGO Insiders account.

I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes.
