LEGO Ideas launches challenge to design an official Valentine’s Day set

The latest LEGO Ideas challenge offers the chance to show your love for LEGO by designing an official Valentine’s Day set.

LEGO Ideas contests regularly result in new LEGO Ideas sets, whether as fully-fledged retail products or gifts-with-purchase, and the newly-launched ‘Build From the Heart’ challenge will be the latest to see the winning entry turned into an official model available to purchase in stores. The brief is simple: build what Valentine’s Day means to you.

Examples given by the LEGO Ideas team include ‘a symbol of love, a message from the heart [and] a sweet treat for your special one’, but the possibilities are endless… almost. Given the proliferation of the official LEGO Botanical Collection, flowers are off-limits, at least as the main build – you’re good to include them as decoration, but nothing more.

Entries are also limited to a maximum of 1,000 pieces, and must not include references to intellectual property (Star Wars, Batman and so on). The LEGO Ideas Review Board will choose five finalists from all entries, which will then progress to a fan vote to determine the overall winner.

Runners-up in the fan vote stage will receive a prize bundle of LEGO Ideas and Botanical Collection sets, including 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera, 21346 Family Tree, 21347 Red London Telephone Box, 10313 Wildflower Bouquet and 10328 Bouquet of Roses. The overall winner will be compensated in line with LEGO Ideas fan designers, receiving 10 copies of their finished set, 1% of the total net sales and credit in the set materials.

You’ve got until October 15 at 11am UK time to submit your entry. Head over to the challenge page to check out the full rules and upload your submission.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
