LEGO Ideas Charlie and the Chocolate Factory set proves persistence pays off

The LEGO Ideas third 2023 review results have revealed a pair of projects that will be transformed into sets, and one is a lesson in persistence.

The two winners of the third 2023 review results have been announced as well as a third that needs more time to be considered. 2PPL’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Here We Go Again! has been selected for an upcoming set but you might recognise this submission.

This project was pitched once before, though with a different design, in 2021 and it was unfortunately not approved back then. Now, 2PPL has tried once more with this submission and found success at long last. LEGO Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is officially coming to shelves in the future.

It’s an example of how persistence can pay off on LEGO Ideas but it’s far from the first set to be based on a re-pitched project.

The recently released 21350 Jaws is based on a submission uploaded in 2020 and then again in 2022 with a refined design that was picked for a future set. Similarly, the upcoming The Nightmare Before Christmas build is another example of this from both 2020 and 2022

It goes to show that rejected LEGO Ideas projects, even those based on intellectual property, can still have a chance at becoming an official set. It all depends on your persistence and a bit of luck as long as the IP isn’t prohibited on the platform.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
