LEGO Ideas Hocus Pocus includes a morbid nod to its original designer
The latest LEGO Ideas set contains a spooky reference to its original designer, in keeping with the theme’s traditions.
LEGO Ideas sets will often contain references to the fan designer who first put forward the idea, in tribute to both the original design and the ongoing input from many of them. Whether it’s a family portrait, a name inclusion, or a hidden reference inside a book, looking closely at small details will often reveals nods to the fan designers who sparked the sets in the first place.
LEGO Ideas 21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage is no different, with one of the gravestones containing the name of the original fan designer, Amber Veyt. If you look just behind the shoulder of Mac Dennison in the picture below, you can see the beginning of her name written on the tombstone. The other two are attributed to Emily Binx and William Sanderson, characters from the original movie.
Amber herself took to Instagram recently to celebrate the official reveal of the set, writing: “‘Tis time! My LEGO Hocus Pocus set will be available worldwide for LEGO VIPs on the 1st of July on the official site and everywhere else the 4th!
“I truly hope you all enjoy building this one! I’m so happy with how it turned out, the Lego team did a fantastic job.”
Comparing the final design to Amber’s original submission highlights the strength of her original submission, with the LEGO Ideas team changing very little. This has clearly gone down well with fans of both the movie and LEGO as a whole, judging from reactions so far.
LEGO Ideas 21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage launches on July 1 for VIP members, and July 4 for everyone else, retailing at £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99.
