LEGO Ideas medieval model reaches review, but will probably go no further

A medieval LEGO Ideas model has spent two years gathering support to reach the review stage, and it’s finally cracked 10,000 votes – but it’s probably not going any further.

J.K.Brick initially submitted their Market Village to the crowdsourcing platform in June 2022, pitching a spiritual successor to 2009’s 10193 Medieval Market Village. It’s just racked up its 10,000th supporter to qualify for the second 2024 review, which means the LEGO Ideas team will now consider whether to produce it as an official set. The problem is that it technically already exists.

Such is the danger of suggesting a LEGO set through the Ideas platform: you never know what the LEGO Group currently has up its sleeve. When J.K.Brick designed and built their sprawling and detailed model, there was no way they could have known that 10332 Medieval Town Square would land on shelves in March 2024, months before they reached the review stage.

The existence of that LEGO Icons set effectively means that the Market Village is D.O.A. in the second 2024 review, because one of the basic criteria for a 10K set to get the green light is that it doesn’t conflict with anything currently on shelves from the LEGO Group. Yes, J.K.Brick’s submission is more detailed than 10332 Medieval Town Square and takes on a slightly different form, but it’s still pretty much the same subject matter.

It’s very likely bad luck for this builder, then – but there are still a bunch of other projects in contention to become a future LEGO Ideas set in this round. Check them all out in the table below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
