LEGO Ideas delivers post office modular building for review

Another LEGO modular building has surpassed 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas, this time pitching a post office in a distinct architectural style.

Ubertoys’ Modular Post Office in Neoclassical Style has taken just over seven months to reach the review stage, and will now be considered for production as an official LEGO set as part of the second 2024 review. And where there was previously only one outcome for modular buildings on LEGO Ideas – outright rejection – that’s all changed thanks to Valentina Bima’s Botanical Garden.

That project was given the green light in the first 2023 review, and is now rumoured to be landing on shelves in November. And more importantly, it’s built in the same way as the Modular Buildings Collection, complete with a baseplate, tiled-off pavement and lampposts. That selection has subsequently opened the door for future modular buildings from LEGO Ideas.

Like Ubertoys’ post office, for example, which sits tall across three storeys and presents a distinct aesthetic hooked to the architectural style that arose in Europe in the mid-18th century. Inside you’ll find a post office with art deco elevator and flooring; a postal museum with a restored 18th-century mail coach; and a sorting centre with a vast skylight.

A post office feels like an obvious candidate for the LEGO Icons Modular Buildings Collection, and it’s subject matter the LEGO Group has already broached in the Winter Village Collection. There’s a chance that it already has an official post office up its sleeve for 2025 or beyond, which could hamper this project’s chances in the review stage, but otherwise it feels like it has as good a shot as any.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
