LEGO Ideas Starry Night designer aims for Gundam model

The fan designer behind 21333 Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night is trying to get a Gundam model on shelves to join the likes of Voltron.

Legotruman’s latest project to reach 10,000 supporters is based on the recognisable anime Gundam, featuring an array of giant mechs. This particular submission recreates the iconic RX-78-2 and measures 46cm tall.

That’s a similar scale to 21311 Voltron, which measured 40cm tall. As with the official LEGO Ideas set, it features 12 points of articulation and features accessories including the beam saber, beam rifle and red shield. Provided the design is followed, it would only need one printed piece on the face.

Gundam would be a brand new collaboration for the LEGO Group but LEGO Ideas is all too familiar with animated robots thanks to 21311 Voltron and 10302 Optimus Prime could serve as a foundation for a Gundam set as well.

For now, the project has only just reached the first 2024 review and has not been approved for a model at the time of writing. It’s up against 23 other submissions that all stand a fair chance at getting a future LEGO Ideas set.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
