LEGO Ideas third 2023 review results announced
LEGO Ideas has announced the results of the third 2023 review, and two different projects have been given the green light to enter production.
A total of 41 different projects were in the running this time round, but 39 of those have fallen at the final hurdle – while two have made the cut and will appear on LEGO Store shelves within the next couple of years. First up is Roberto Ceruti and Jody Padulano’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Here We Go Again, which reached 10,000 votes for the second time to qualify for this review.
Their submission recreates the story’s iconic chocolate waterfall scene, complete with minifigures of Charlie Bucket, Willy Wonka, Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teevee and two Oompa-Loompas. The waterfall is completely functional and can be motorised. Whether that feature will make it through to the finished product remains to be seen.
Next up is Alex Sahli’s Italian Riviera, a colourful, 2,900-piece model inspired by the cliffside Italian villages of Cinque Terre. The pitch includes a gelato shop, fish market and florist, a second-storey living space, a town square and beach, and presents a relatively fresh architectural style for LEGO sets in general.
You can expect to see both of these sets available to purchase within the next two years or so (based on the usual timeline for LEGO Ideas models). The finished builds will likely undergo at least a couple of changes from the designs submitted to LEGO Ideas to account for stability, price and so on.
The LEGO Ideas team have also confirmed that they’re still considering TOBY1KENOBI20506’s Disney Pixar Luxo Jr Lamp, which originally qualified for the second 2023 review. “This is still in review as we have a few final things to check, and we hope to be able to share the final conclusions of this submission once we have completed these steps of the process,” the team said in a blog post.
