LEGO is coming to SDCC 2024 – and it could bring exclusives

The LEGO Group looks set to attend San Diego Comic-Con 2024, and there’s a small chance that there might be something exclusive available on the show floor.

While the LEGO Group is not listed among the exhibitors for SDCC 2024 on the convention’s official website, the company does have a spot on the official floor plan at booth 2829. And given it’s maintained a consistent presence at physical SDCC events, the odds are good that it really will return this year – and that its absence from the exhibitor list is just an error. The question now is: will the LEGO Group bring any exclusives to SDCC?

Convention-exclusive LEGO sets and minifigures have been pretty thin on the ground for the past couple of years, as the LEGO Group has shied away from continuing to produce unique minifigures that subsequently fetch thousands on the aftermarket. The company passed up physical exclusives entirely in 2022 – the first in-person convention since 2020’s pandemic-prompted hiatus – but there was one small LEGO exclusive at last year’s event.

That was a tiny LEGO NINJAGO Baby Riyu dragon, cast in an exclusive colour with unique printing. The only way to get your hands on that one was to take part in the NINJAGO talent signing event at the convention – and it’s so rare that there are currently no copies of the polybag available on secondary marketplaces BrickLink and BrickOwl.

Still, the fact it exists at all suggests the LEGO Group hasn’t abandoned the concept of convention exclusives altogether. We could therefore see something in a similar vein at this year’s event (if the LEGO Group really is in attendance). We won’t know for sure until San Diego Comic-Con kicks off on July 25.

Keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for the latest from SDCC 2024 as it happens, including any potential product reveals. Multiple LEGO Star Wars and Sonic the Hedgehog sets were unveiled at last year’s event, so we can at least reasonably expect new models to be shown off this year too.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
