LEGO Mario Kart sets are missing a couple of things, so far

The newly revealed LEGO Mario Kart sets offer an assortment of characters, karts and items but they still miss a couple of key elements.

Six new LEGO Mario Kart sets are racing to shelves in 2025 and initial images of the builds have showcased their accuracy, mechanics, mechanics and characters. They haven’t quite covered everything though, even in terms of the most iconic elements of the Mario Kart series.

The LEGO Mario Kart sets reference the gliding mechanic in 72032 Standard Kart, triggered in recent Mario Kart games to glide through the air during the race.

The underwater equivalent of this mechanic is a propeller that appears at the back of the kart during certain sections of a track. None of the six sets features a propeller and only 72032 Standard Kart has the glider, though it can be attached to other karts, bikes and ATVs.

That’s not all that’s missing in the LEGO Mario Ket sets either as an iconic item is nowhere to be found. Despite the new element for the small shells that can be shot out of stud shooters, they only come in red and green. Seasoned and new Mario Kart enthusiasts alike will know that there’s another kind of shell made famous by the series though.

None of the LEGO Mario Kart sets revealed so far include the winged Spiny Shell. The four-stud connection underneath the small shell piece leaves just enough room for some wings on the side. Hopefully, the blue shell is coming in a future LEGO Mario Kart model though none have currently been confirmed.

It’s worth noting that LEGO Super Mario subthemes don’t tend to last more than one wave. These include a range inspired by Luigi’s Mansion and Donkey Kong. Neither have seen a second wave at the time of writing but the Mario Kart range may be more popular than either of these, hopefully prompting a second wave to fill in the gaps left by the first six sets.

There are plenty of specific vehicle designs left to cover too, though we don’t imagine that LEGO Mario Kart will ever manage to cover all of them. You can check out more details about the six Mario Kart models by clicking here
