LEGO MASTERS alum leads workshop ahead of $1 billion Virginia factory’s opening

A LEGO MASTERS USA Season 4 contestant was recently invited to lead a workshop in Virginia ahead of the opening of a new $1 billion factory.

LEGO MASTERS USA Season 4 contestant Ben Edlavitch recently visited the Metro Richmond Northside Club in partnership with the LEGO Group to lead a building session about reimagining their environment.

This was part of the LEGO Group’s Build the Change program but also served to bolster support in the state of Virginia before they are to open a massive factory in 2027

“It’s energizing to be at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond today to inspire and empower kids to create change in their own backyards,” shared Preben Elnef, VP and program lead for LEGO Manufacturing Virginia.

“Local partnerships and volunteerism are an important way we engage in the community as we continue to build our presence in the Commonwealth of Virginia, an integral part of the LEGO Group’s strategic growth plan to bring LEGO play to millions of kids.”

The factory is currently scheduled to open in 2027 as construction is ramping up with the appointment of a general contractor and more positions earlier this year. Preben Elnef was one of the people appointed in the previous update.

“It was great to team up with the LEGO Group to inspire Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond members to spark their creativity and imagination to change the world,” commented Ben Edlavitch.

“Building with LEGO bricks has unlocked important opportunities for me – from pursuing an architecture degree to competing on LEGO MASTERS – and I can’t wait to see all the incredible things the next generation creates.”

A careers page for the LEGO Groups’ Virginia factory is available online for those seeking employment at the site now or in the future. It is estimated to cost over $1 billion and create 1,760 jobs over 10 years.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
