LEGO might have teased Harry Potter summer 2024 wave as early as last year

Rumours have given some insight into LEGO Harry Potter’s focus for the summer of 2024 – but there might have been clues in a set from last year.

The latest online rumours, sourced via Instagram users brick_clicker and 1414FalconFan, suggest that a number of sets based on the Wizarding World could be on the way this summer, including a number of sets that revisit locations from across Hogwarts Castle and Grounds, from 76431 Hogwarts: Potions Class in the dungeons to 76434 Aragog: Forbidden Forest in the grounds themselves.

With seven books, eight movies in the core series, three more in the prequel series, and a global play in two parts under its belt, Harry Potter has plenty of material to inspire LEGO sets. Not every scene or location can appear in every version of Hogwarts Castle, of course, meaning updated versions of common places often have different focuses. Last year saw the release of 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds, for example, which covered the same ground as 71043 Hogwarts Castle but with extra additions and new features.

Some of these new features are now rumoured to be featured in even more detail in the LEGO Harry Potter summer wave, suggesting that there were clues for the upcoming range of sets woven into 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds. For example, the 2023 set featured both the Beauxbatons ship coming into land and the Durmstrange ship on the lake, now both rumoured to be coming in larger versions in 76440 Durmstrang Ship & Beauxbatons Carriage.

One of the few rooms featured in 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds is the potions classroom in the dungeons, another set rumoured to be featured this summer with 76431 Hogwarts: Potions Class.

What’s more, in March 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse is already confirmed to be on its way (a location that wasn’t visited in the first round of minifigure scale Hogwarts Castle sets), a spot that’s given special prominence in 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds due to its position on the blue, lake-style base.

While it’s unlikely that the LEGO Harry Potter designers are weaving in particular clues to future sets, it does suggest that locations move in and out of their collective focus. This could be because the team noticed that there were carriage, boat, and boathouse-shaped gaps that needed to be filled and decided to do it at two different scales, or it could simply be out of wanting to focus on something new rather than tried and tested locations that have been done several times before.

Whatever the reason, it’s interesting to note the cyclical nature of such locations. After all, LEGO Harry Potter is not alone in being a theme that returns to some of the same locations over and over again. LEGO Star Wars is rumoured to release not one but two Millennium Falcons this year alone and there are too many sets based on Tattooine to name. With that in mind, keeping an eye on what new locations are visited – even on a small scale – could offer clues for what larger-scale sets we see in time.
