LEGO builds ‘multi-year’ board game partnership

The LEGO Group has announced a new multi-year partnership with Asmodee, with plans for a range of LEGO-themed board games.

With the release of Monkey Palace fast approaching, the LEGO Group appears to be investing in the future of LEGO-themed board games in a new partnership with CATAN publisher Asmodee. As well as the board game centred around building – you guessed it – a monkey palace, the LEGO Group has announced plans for a whole new studio dedicated to board games, called Dotted Games.

The multi-year partnership between the LEGO Group and Asmodee at Dotted Games is based in Denmark and is made up of experienced professionals from the board gaming industry. There are already plans for a follow-up game to Monkey Palace, titled Brick Like This! The second game is described as a LEGO family party game focused on teamwork, communication, and building.

“We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Asmodee – it has been a truly inspiring journey,” said Jaume Fabregat, the Board Games Lead at LEGO Publishing. “By combining Asmodee’s extensive expertise in board games with the limitless potential of the LEGO system, we are unlocking exponential possibilities for innovation in play. This partnership paves the way for future collaborations that will redefine the LEGO building experience within the tabletop landscape, offering fans unique and distinctive play experiences.”

“Embarking on this exciting journey with the LEGO Group is exciting, combining their timeless creativity with our passion and expertise for games,” said Thomas Koegler, Asmodee Deputy COO. “Together, we aim to build unforgettable experiences that will unite families and friends around the world, one LEGO brick and one shuffle of the deck at a time.”

Monkey Palace will be available to buy globally following its worldwide debut at Essen Spiel happening October 3, 2024. There’s no confirmed release date for Brick Like This! just yet.
