LEGO panels confirmed for Disney D23 Expo 2024

This year’s Disney D23 Expo will include two LEGO panels, alongside Star Wars, Marvel and Disney reveals that will likely inform future LEGO sets.

Disney’s annual event returns to Anaheim, California from August 9 to 11 this year, and Friday is shaping up to be the day you’ll most want to pay attention to. As well as the two-hour-long Disney Entertainment Showcase, which promises exclusive looks at upcoming movies and series, the first day of the convention will include a panel dedicated to LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.

Taking place at the Lucasfilm booth from 12pm PST, the panel will see showrunners Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit and Lucasfilm senior vice president James Waugh reveal more about the upcoming Disney+ animated special. Rebuild the Galaxy is a sort of ‘What if’ of the LEGO Star Wars universe, and has already resulted in three brand new LEGO sets this month (including 75389 The Dark Falcon).

D23’s second LEGO panel will take place on Sunday at 5pm PST, as Pixar’s Jay Ward introduces new short film collaborations between the LEGO Group and Disney’s premier animation studio. The shorts will apparently extend existing Pixar stories, and the studio’s Creative Director of Franchise will be revealing how they ‘came to be built’.

So, about that Disney Entertainment Showcase: LEGO Star Wars and Marvel fans will want to tune into the reveals where possible, because it’s very likely that they’ll shape the next few years for both of these themes. The last D23 Expo in 2022 saw all sorts of shows and movies announced, so we’ll hopefully learn more about upcoming Star Wars and Marvel projects at this year’s main event.

The Disney Entertainment Showcase runs from 7pm to 9pm PST on Friday, August 9. That’s 3am to 5am BST, so if you’re in the UK, check back with Brick Fanatics on Saturday for all the latest LEGO-related news from D23 Expo 2024.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
