LEGO plans events around the globe for World Play Day
World Play Day is fast approaching and the LEGO Group has plenty of plans in store for people around the globe.
With new research from the LEGO Group finding that children are spending just 2% of their week (equivalent to 7 hours) playing, World Play Day 2023 is geared around encouraging families to spend more time playing. Within 24 hours on Thursday, October 12, the LEGO Group will host various global events, collaborations, and surprises to help people around the world make their day a bit more playful. These include:
- London, UK: The LEGO Superpower Academy will open in London’s Shoreditch bringing families and their playful superpowers together to solve a range of fiendishly fun challenges. The free event runs from October 12 -18 with tickets available here.
- New York, US: The Big Applie will kick off World Play Day in Times Square by ringing the ‘recess’ bell, giving adults an opportunity to prioritise play during their weekday routine. Play spaces will pop up to interrupt a regular work day with a city-wide call to action, led by an on-the-ground play squad offering opportunities to build and play.
- Sydney, Australia: Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall will be transformed into ‘Play Street Mall’ with a giant playground helping those of all ages enjoy a moment of play from October 12 – 14.
- Essen, Germany: Families will be able to put their superpowers to the test at the LEGO PlayZone at Zeche Zollverein (Grand Hall), running for free from October 7 – 12.
- Yongin, South Korea: Famous LEGO builders will be hosting a build-along event at Lotte Mall Suji, inviting families to create together.
- Kuala Lumpur & Selangor, Malaysia: Children will be invited to redesign traditional office spaces to make them more playful across co-working spaces in both cities.
- Taipei, Taiwan: Families will find play opportunities popping up at the Taipei Performing Arts Center as the arena is turned into a playground to inspire families to come together to play on the day.
